Daily Office Lections: Zephaniah 3:14-20; Titus 1:1-16; Luke 1:1-25
We are now getting very close to the arrival of our Lord. Today's reading from the Gospel of Luke has to do, primarily, with the birth of John the Baptist. John is the forerunner, the one who is to prepare the way for Yahweh's return to Zion, for the Messiah --- for Jesus Christ.
And his miraculous conception (being born to elderly parents) is reminiscent of Isaac's conception who also was born to elderly parents -- Abraham and Sarah. And it was to Abraham that God made the promise that through his seed, his descendants all of the nations of the earth would be blessed. Thus, by calling our attention back to Abraham, God is saying that the promises made long ago are about to fulfilled.
John is here, so we know that Jesus is right around the corner. Come, Lord Jesus, come.
